Carton flow racking uses lanes of skate wheel conveyors mounted at a slight pitch within the rack structure to provide gravity-fed first-in first-out (FIFO) picking of cartons, cases, totes, and small parts bins. Product is loaded at the back of the rack and flows forward by gravity to the pick face at the front, keeping the pick position fully stocked at all times as items are removed. Each level holds multiple lanes of independent flow tracks, allowing different SKUs side by side on the same shelf level. Skate wheel tracks consist of rows of small polymer wheels on steel axles mounted in galvanized steel channels. The wheels provide extremely low rolling resistance, allowing even light cartons to flow smoothly. Track widths are matched to your carton sizes — narrow tracks for small boxes, wider tracks for full cases. Multiple tracks fit between beams on each level. Speed is controlled by adjusting the pitch angle of the tracks, typically 3 to 5 degrees. Lane dividers and guide rails keep cartons tracking straight. Knuckled track ends tilt up slightly to act as a natural brake, holding the front carton at the pick face. Compatible with standard selective pallet rack frames in any height configuration. Dramatically increases picking speed and ergonomics compared to static shelving by bringing product to the picker instead of requiring the picker to walk deep into shelving aisles.
